Araki Murashige
“The Schemer of Settsu”
Rising from a retainer of the Ikeda of Settsu, he served Oda Nobunaga and was promoted until he was entrusted with the whole province. But in Tenshō 6 he suddenly rebelled against Nobunaga and shut himself in Arioka Castle. He is known for imprisoning Kuroda Kanbei, who came to urge him to reconsider, in a dungeon for nearly a year. When no Mōri relief came, Murashige slipped out alone, leaving his wife, children and retainers in the castle; those left behind were slaughtered by Nobunaga. In later years he returned to society as the tea master "Dōkun" and was counted among Rikyū's leading disciples.

Life
- Tenshō 6 Rebellion at Arioka Castle Turned against Nobunaga, shut himself in Arioka Castle and imprisoned Kanbei in a dungeon.
- Tenshō 7 Flight With no relief coming he escaped alone, leaving his family and retainers in the castle. They were later executed.
- Tenshō 14 The Tea Master Dōkun Returned to society as a tea master under Hideyoshi, took the name Dōkun and died in Sakai.
