Uesugi Kagekatsu
“One of the Five Elders”
Kenshin's adopted son (his sister's child), who won the Otate war and inherited the Uesugi house. A taciturn, severe commander said to have laughed only a handful of times in his life. He submitted to Hideyoshi, became one of the Five Elders and held Aizu, 1,200,000 koku. After Hideyoshi's death he rejected Ieyasu's demand that he come to the capital with Naoe Kanetsugu's famous "Naoe letter," the immediate trigger for Sekigahara. Reduced after the defeat to Yonezawa, 300,000 koku, he still preserved the house.

Life
- Tenshō 6 The Otate War Won the civil war over the succession and became head of the Uesugi.
- Keichō 3 Aizu, 1,200,000 koku Transferred to Aizu by Hideyoshi, he carried great weight as one of the Five Elders.
- Keichō 5 The Trigger for Sekigahara Defied Ieyasu with the Naoe letter and set off the confrontation between east and west.
- Keichō 6 To Yonezawa Reduced in fief after the war, he preserved the family name at Yonezawa.
