Ishikawa Kazumasa
“The Tokugawa Defector”
The most senior of the retainers, who had served Ieyasu since his days as an Imagawa hostage and shared the leadership of the eastern and western halves of the domain with Sakai Tadatsugu. He fought at Mikatagahara and many other battles and single-handedly handled negotiations with the Oda and the Toyotomi. But after Komaki and Nagakute he suddenly defected to Hideyoshi; the desertion of a senior retainer who knew all the Tokugawa military secrets shook the house. Granted Matsumoto in Shinano, he laid the foundations of Matsumoto Castle.
