Ukita Hideie
“Youngest of the Five Elders”
Succeeding to the house as a child on the death of his father Naoie, he was raised as Hideyoshi's adopted son and joined the Five Elders. At Sekigahara he led the Western Army's largest contingent, 17,000 men, in a day-long struggle with Fukushima Masanori. Defeated, he fled to Satsuma and was later exiled to Hachijō-jima, where he lived to 84 as the last living witness of Sekigahara.
