Head of the Kōno, vassal warriors of Iyo. In the Kōan campaign of 1281 he led the men of Iyo to Hakata. Rather than camp behind the stone wall, he is said to have set up on the beach with his back to it, to show that he would not retreat (the "Kōno rear wall"). When the Eastern Route Army moored its ships at Shikanoshima, he and his uncle Michitoki attacked them in two small boats, and though wounded himself he boarded an enemy ship and fought. Michitoki was killed in the attack. The rewards he won restored the fortunes of the declining Kōno.
