Kumagai Naozane
“The Grapple at Ichi-no-Tani”
An eastern warrior based at Kumagai in Musashi who fought at Ichi-no-Tani as a champion of the Minamoto. He pinned down Taira no Atsumori on the shore, but hesitated, seeing his own son in the boy's youth. Forced to take the head, that single act turned him toward the impermanence of the world. He later became a disciple of Hōnen, took holy orders under the name Rensei and is said to have lived the life of the nenbutsu.

- Juei 3 Killing Atsumori Pinned down Taira no Atsumori on the shore at Ichi-no-Tani and took his head in tears.
