“Four Generations of the Three Excellencies”
Born into a family that had produced the Three Excellencies for four generations, he was chosen to lead the coalition against Dong Zhuo and became the great power of Hebei. Controlling Ji, You, Bing and Qing Provinces, he commanded the largest force in northern China. He confronted Cao Cao at Guandu but was crushed when his grain at Wuchao was burned. He died of illness in despair, and the Yuan house fell apart in the struggle over his succession.

- Jian'an 7 Death in Despair Never recovered from the defeat at Wuchao and died without naming a successor.
