Huang Gai
“The Ruse of Self-Injury”
An old general of Jiangdong who served three generations: Sun Jian, Sun Ce and Sun Quan. At Red Cliffs he proposed the fire attack and deceived Cao Cao with the "ruse of self-injury," having himself flogged in public. Approaching under a false surrender, his ships set fire to the chained armada and decided the victory. He is also said to have governed well as a local official.
