Taira no Munemori
“Head of the Taira”
Kiyomori's third son, who became head of the Taira after the deaths of his elder brother Shigemori and others. After his father's death he led the clan, was driven from the capital by Kiso Yoshinaka and campaigned through the west with Emperor Antoku. He met the Minamoto at Yashima and Dan-no-ura and was beaten. Failing to drown himself, he was taken alive and beheaded in Ōmi with his son Kiyomune, and the Taira, who had gloried in their splendour, were no more.

Life
- Juei 2 Flight from the Capital Driven out by Kiso Yoshinaka, he fled west with the clan and Emperor Antoku.
- Genryaku 2 Yashima and Dan-no-ura Met the Minamoto as head of the clan and was beaten in both battles.
- Genryaku 2 Beheaded in Ōmi Taken alive at Dan-no-ura, sent to Kamakura and then beheaded in Ōmi.
